Overview of Manage financial statements (Beta)

Overview of changes to the Manage statements (previously Customize statements) feature.

circle-info

This feature is currently in beta, and the content on this page is temporary. It will be merged into the main documentation when the feature becomes generally available.

We're upgrading the financial statement creation experience to give you a more intuitive and flexible way to create and manage statements.

This upgrade focuses on improving usability, simplifying formula creation, and making key functionality easier to discover. It also lays the foundation for future enhancements.

This page outlines the key changes in the upgraded experience and links to new documentation.

What’s different?

You still access Manage statements from the Statement menu. However, the experience within this feature has been modernised to reduce complexity and give you more control over your statements.

Statement list

When you open Manage statements, you see a different layout, giving you a clearer overview of statements available in the database.

You can:

  • Select a statement from the list on the left and view its contents immediately on the right.

  • Quickly switch between statements to compare their contents.

  • Hide, duplicate, or delete statements.

Before

After

Account restrictions

We removed the Manage account restrictions option from the Manage statements feature. This setting controls which accounts users can drill into, such as salary accounts. It now sits in the Statements menu below the Manage statements option.

Adding statements

We improved how you add financial statements to save you time and avoid accidental duplication, which reduces long-term maintenance.

  • Duplicate (previously Clone) is still the fastest way to create a new statement.

  • Coming soon - Add a statement from a template, giving you a predefined structure to start and the flexibility to then map accounts as needed.

After

Editing statements

Previously described as customizing statements, we made several changes to what we now call the editing area to make the experience more intuitive, especially for new users.

Before

After

Updated statement editing area with Edit statement and Map accounts tabs
  • Clearer tabs: We made the two tabs more visually represent the steps involved and added descriptive labels that better reflect the actions you take on each one: Edit statement and Map accounts.

  • Bold styling at the row level: Previously, all calculation rows could be bolded globally from the Styles menu when viewing the statement grid. You can now control bold styling for individual rows directly within the new Styles menu in the statement editing area, giving you more flexibility and precision.

  • Clearer performance direction options: We replaced the Lower is better checkbox with two explicit options in the new Styles menu: Lower is better or Higher is better. This removes ambiguity and makes the intended performance direction clearer, giving you greater confidence in how values are interpreted and styled. Your selection is shown using simple color coding, so you can quickly confirm it at a glance without reopening the menu.

  • Simplified visibility controls: We replaced the Hidden checkbox with a Show/Hide button. Along with the updated performance direction options, reduces clutter in the editing area and makes configuration more intuitive.

  • Simpler formula creation: We made several enhancements to calculations in statements.

    • We replaced the previous square bracket syntax with a click-to-select experience. Now you can click groups and other calculations directly in the statement to automatically insert references to them into formulas, or type ahead to find what you need.

    • Special functions are now easier to discover. The FX menu displays a list of available functions, such as statistics and other financial statement functions. This removes the need to rely on documentation to know what functions are available.

Improved database build behavior

When you exit the statement creation area, you are no longer forced to rebuild the database immediately. You can choose to build later instead, giving you more control over when that process occurs.

New (temporary) documentation

For the Beta stage, we created the following temporary pages. The content will be merged into the main documentation when the feature becomes generally available.
