# Transaction mode

Analyze individual transactions in detail.

{% hint style="info" %}
How you access transactions depends on your license:

* **Full license**: You need the **Query** > **Mode** > **Transaction** permission to view transactions in your own analysis or through shared favorites.
* **Viewer license**: You can only view transactions through shared favorites saved from the Transaction view tab or in Transaction mode.
 {% endhint %}

Use **Transaction** mode when you want to work entirely with transaction-level data. Your existing filters and period context carry across.

Transaction mode has one transaction view rather than separate Summary and Dimension views, and the **Grid view** tab isn't displayed. If you want to move between Grid view and the underlying transactions, stay in another mode and use the **Transaction view** tab instead.

The panel on the left lists transaction properties, followed by the dimensions in your database and their properties. Select the properties you want to include and they display as columns in the grid.

See [View transactions](/flex-modes/explore-your-data/view-transactions.md) for how to customize what displays, nest transactions, add calculations, and search or filter your results.

#### Example

Suppose you want to review the individual transactions for a customer this month.

1. Select **Mode** > **Transaction**.
2. Set the period to **Current Month**.
3. Focus on the customer you want to investigate.

The grid displays the transactions for that customer in the current month. From here, you can select additional properties to display, nest by a property such as **Invoice Number**, or add calculations.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.phocassoftware.com/flex-modes/change-your-analysis/switch-modes/transaction-mode.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
