# See your data in a chart

Turn the data in your grid into a chart.

{% hint style="info" %}
User permission: **Query**

Adding charts to dashboards is coming soon as part of the new dashboard experience.
{% endhint %}

Charts give you a visual overview of your data, making it easier to identify trends, comparisons, and patterns without scanning rows and columns in the grid.

Click **Chart builder** in the toolbar to open the Chart builder panel. From here, select the data to include, choose a chart type, and configure how the chart displays.

1. In the grid, select the data you want to include in the chart. The chart preview updates as you make your selections.
2. In the Chart builder panel, choose the chart type and configure how the data displays. For information about each chart type and its settings, see [Dashboards (new experience) widgets](/basics/dashboards-new-experience/create-a-dashboard/dashboard-new-experience-widgets.md).<br>

3. Review the chart in the preview. Drag the preview to reposition it, or use the resize handle to change its size.
4. At the top of the chart preview, enter a name for the chart and, optionally, a description. Hover over this area to access more options. You can export the chart as an image or dock the preview to the Chart builder panel and undock it again.
5. **Add to dashboard** is coming soon as part of the new dashboard experience.

To close the chart panel, click the **X** in the top-right corner or the **Chartb builder** button in the toolbar.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.phocassoftware.com/flex-modes/explore-your-data/see-your-data-in-a-chart.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
