Search for data

Search the selected dimension to quickly find specific data.

Use the filter bar when you know what you're looking for, such as a particular customer or product. You can also create a filter from a value in the grid when you want to find similar or comparative data.

Searches create filter rules automatically. You can open the Advanced filter panel to view or refine those rules.

Search using the filter bar

Enter search criteria in the filter bar to narrow the data in the selected dimension.

1. Enter your search text in the filter bar.
2. Press Enter.

The search automatically uses an is like (wildcard) condition across all property columns currently displayed in the grid. Your keyword displays as a filter tag in the filter bar.

The properties available depend on the selected dimension and your database configuration.

Filter from the grid

Use the right-click menu to create a filter directly from a value in the grid while you're looking at the data you're interested in.

Right-click a cell, then select the option you want to apply. The menu is contextual, so the available options depend on the selected cell. For example, you can:

• focus on or exclude the selected item
• apply comparison conditions, such as equal to, greater than, or less than
• apply top 10 or bottom 10 ranking filters
• copy the selected value

For example, if you right-click a value in a calculation column, you can use that value as the basis for a comparison or ranking filter.

Right-click filtering is particularly useful with custom calculation columns. After you apply the filter, you can hide or delete the custom column without affecting the filtered results.

The resulting filter displays in the filter bar and its rule is available in the Advanced filter panel.

Edit a search filter

Open the Advanced filter panel when you want to view or refine a search. You can change the search criteria, add another rule, or combine the search with other filters.

For example, you might search for customers in a particular region, then add a rule to show only those whose sales exceed a specified value.
